Title: The Art of Generative AI: Text, Code, and Beyond

Abstract:
Large Language Models (LLMs) have transformed Natural Language Processing and the wider spectrum of Artificial Intelligence. Relying on their capability to understand extensive contexts, the groundbreaking innovation lies in tackling multiple tasks by a single formalism: generating contextually coherent and creatively diverse subsequent outputs. This talk overviews recent progress in large language modeling and my journey into the realm of generative AI. Highlighting my focuses on both text and code modalities, the talk delves into my recent research on retrieval-augmented text generation and multilingual code completions. Furthermore, the presentation outlines my ongoing research trajectory on planning, reasoning, aligning, and prospective steps toward self-learning.

Bio:
Moontae Lee leads the Advanced Machine Learning Laboratory in Seoul at LG AI Research. Concurrently he is an assistant professor of Information and Decision Sciences at the University of Illinois Chicago. Prior to leading LG AI Research, he was invited to be a visiting scholar at Microsoft Research (MSR) and later extended as a consulting professor for the Deep Learning Group at MSR Redmond. Moontae’s research aims to develop innovative AI models and algorithms. While designing Large Language Models and Deep Generative Models are his primary focuses, his curiosity also spans to Human-AI interactions, aiming to build interactive platforms that foster intellectual, insightful, and inspirational communications.
